Black Friday book and comic deals!

It's Black Friday, and you know what that means don't you?

Yes...Endless fistfights in electrical stores, and verbal abuse of hapless retail staff. Oh, what merry larks!

For those who don't much fancy getting involved in good old English fisticuffs, at least there's plenty of digital sales on at the moment.

If you haven't already read my 'Last Of The Navel Navigators' children's novel, it's currently available to download for FREE worldwide on Amazon Kindle. The most recent 5 star review stated that it was 'like Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy for kids', so if that sounds like your sort of thing you can grab yourself a copy here: mybook.to/navelnav1kindle

My other children's novel, Grynbad And The Seven Soups, is available at a reduced price in a Kindle Countdown Deal that's active in both UK and US. The paperback version of the book has proved immensely popular, and recently hit the Amazon number 1 bestseller list in three categories simultaneously. Get the Kindle version here for just 99p/$0.99 whilst it's on offer: mybook.to/Grynbad

Meanwhile, in the world of comic-related carnage, all 100% Biodegradable digital issues have been reduced by 33% to just $0.66 (that's about 50p in the UK) on Drivethru Comics until Monday.

Death Duty is out now!

Death Duty: Renegade from 100% Biodegradable - On Sale Now!

Death Duty: Renegade is available now in digital or print from DriveThru Comics http://www.drivethrucomics.com/product/226483/Death-Duty-Renegade.

In a war-torn future, crime and disloyalty to the Terran Empire are punished with conscription into mercenary law enforcement squads: soldiers consigned to do or die in order to prove their commitment to the common good.

Those who serve out a full year are entitled to a bonus and financial rewards for their work – and even the opportunity of early amnesty.

Of course, very few survive what is known as DEATH DUTY: the average life expectancy for a recruit is four months…in some cases, much less!

Dissidents in the Terran Empire are put on the infamous List – tracked down by Death Duty squads and terminated for their rebellion with extreme prejudice.

Described by some as ruthless assassins working with the worst of intentions, Dutymen - and women - see themselves as simply being paid to kill to keep the Empire safe. For most of them, exactly who they kill doesn’t matter – until one of their number, Travis Wilson, begins to question the missions they’re assigned and goes AWOL...a wanted man.

Death Duty: Renegade, the first in a trilogy of stories starring Travis Wilson and Rourke (Rourke created by John Freeman and Liam Sharp) is written by John Freeman (Doctor Who, Judge Dredd Megazine, Black Ops Extreme) with David Hailwood (100% Biodegradable, TOXIC), drawn by Brett Burbridge (Octal, 100% Biodegradable) and lettered by Ken Reynolds (Cognition, Sliced Quarterly)

DEATH DUTY: RENEGADE collects the first full length Death Duty strip first published in 100% Biodegradable, and includes the “lost” first episode planned for an unpublished WarWorldz anthology comic, drawn by Alan Burrows (Dan Dare, Commando).

Edited by Dave Hailwood, the Death Duty: Renegade collection is published by Crucible Press, a new comic imprint established by the team behind the comics website downthetubes.net, in partnership with Biomekazoik Press.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID:

“ A ripping yarn that’s hitting all the right beats”
- A Place to Hang Your Cape

"Death Duty has a real throwback feel to it, like a cross between David Lloyd and vintage Alan Grant.”
- Pipedream Comics

More Issue 14 sneak peeks!

Well, since Issue 14 is mere hours away from completion, here's a peek at some of the other strips appearing inside.

From Andre Mateus and Tony Suleri there's 'Old Bill' - an ageing detective who's struggling to remain useful in a technologically advanced society.

Then there's Last Breath by David Hailwood, Dave Snell and Ken Reynolds, in which even the stars provide no escape from a persistent zombie outbreak.

And rounding off the issue, there's the final instalment of John Freeman and David Hailwood's Death Duty series, ably illustrated by Brett Burbridge, and lettered by Ken Reynolds.

There'll be more news on the series that'll be replacing Death Duty coming soon, so stay tuned! (or, er, pop back later)

Iron Bru!

Coming to Issue 7 of 100% Biodegradable...Iron Bru by David Hailwood and Denis Vermesse.

It's been eighteen years since the boneheaded barbarian bumbled his way onto the comics scene, first appearing in Issue 8 of Shane Chebsey's 'CAOF' anthology (my first published work!).

The original Bru strip was illustrated by myself, so it's jolly nice to have someone who can actually draw taking over the reins (especially when it's the highly talented Denis).  I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of Bru!

Death Duty!

With issue 7 of 100% Biodegradable due out next month, it's time to start doing some previews.

First up is Death Duty from John Freeman (Dr Who, Judge Dredd Megazine, Crucible) and Alan Burrows (2000ad, Starblazer, Commando), with lettering by Ken Reynolds.
Preview of Death Duty by John Freeman and Alan Burrows
The series was first conceived back in the early 90's after John's time as editor at Marvel UK.  Set in a brutal future when corporations run a galaxy-wide empire, where Earth is a dumping ground and far from the planet it used to be, convict Travis Wilson is a man on the edge, conscripted to "peace keeping" duties that see Death Duty members hunting down enemies of their boss.  If you're on The List...he's after you!

Death Duty will be 100% Biodegradable's first ongoing series, running for 8 parts, with Brett Burbridge taking over the art duties from part 2 onwards, and David Hailwood co-writing the series with John.

It also features among its supporting cast the long awaited return of Rourke of the Radlands - a character first created by John Freeman and Liam Sharp (Judge Dredd, Death's Head, X-Men) for Marvel UK's Strip, almost 25 years ago.

Issue 7 of 100% Biodegradable will be out early December.  You can grab previous issues of the 30 page digital anthology on Comicsy, Drivethru and ComiXology for just 69p/$0.99

You can also buy digital copies of John Freeman and Smuzz' popular sci-fi series, Crucible here:  http://cruciblecomic.co.uk
