The penultimate issue of 100% Biodegradable is out NOW!

Issue 21 of 100% Biodegradable has finally landed, and it's a big 'un, featuring an extra ten pages of content.

As eagle-eyed readers might be able to deduce from Mo Ali's trippy Funguys cover, we have another explosive 'Funguys' adventure this issue, written by the legendary Ian Edginton (X-Force, 2000ad, Aliens) and illustrated by Alan Burrows (Eagle, Red Dwarf). Ian wrote the strip over 26 years ago (on a typewriter, no less!), and it's a pleasure to be able to bring this self contained 16 pager back into the limelight.

Next up, a young cyborg seeks bloody vengeance for the death of his parents in Mark Bertolini and Gary O’ Donnell’sWith A Vengeance’.

A group of unwary space scavengers find themselves trapped in the midst of a battle between two superior intellects in ‘Catch’ by Mikael Lopez and N G Williams.

You’ll never be able to look at a Jellybaby in quite the same way after reading ‘Squeaky Treats’ by Stu Smith and Tony Suleri.

The return of an old adversary spells trouble for the crew of Skow 709 in 'Skowdogs' by John Freeman (Dr Who, Judge Dredd Megazine), David Hailwood, Dave Thomson and Ken Reynolds.
Synthetic eyes helplessly watch the downfall of humanity in 'Lifeboats’ by Stu Smith, Scott Twells and Ken Reynolds.

A hapless photographer puts his soul on the line to get the perfect shot in ‘Photo Op’ by Steven Fraser and Edward R. Norden.

And finally, a gigantic 50 foot tall lizard has a bad day at the supermarket in ‘Supermarket Monster’ by the ever amusing Ben Peter Johnson (Viz, Hallowscream).

Issue 21 is available at the following digital stores for just 69p/$0.99:

Comicsy:

Drivethru:

A ComiXology release will happen at a later date. Previous issues are available here: https://www.comixology.co.uk/100-Biodegradable/comics-series/17594

If you've yet to read the earlier editions, you can get issues 1-3 completely FREE when you sign up to our comics Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/90a01deb4768/biopressfreebie

So...that's almost 5 years and 21 issues done...But we're not finished yet! Tune in September for the final apocalyptic edition of 100% Biodegradable.

More Issue 14 sneak peeks!

Well, since Issue 14 is mere hours away from completion, here's a peek at some of the other strips appearing inside.

From Andre Mateus and Tony Suleri there's 'Old Bill' - an ageing detective who's struggling to remain useful in a technologically advanced society.

Then there's Last Breath by David Hailwood, Dave Snell and Ken Reynolds, in which even the stars provide no escape from a persistent zombie outbreak.

And rounding off the issue, there's the final instalment of John Freeman and David Hailwood's Death Duty series, ably illustrated by Brett Burbridge, and lettered by Ken Reynolds.

There'll be more news on the series that'll be replacing Death Duty coming soon, so stay tuned! (or, er, pop back later)

Biodegradable Birthday Bonanza!

This week marks 100% Biodegradable's first birthday.  Hurrah!

To celebrate, you can grab issue 1 for free on Comicsy until 1st December, or buy all 6 issues as part of a special DriveThru Bundle for less than $3.

Special thanks to all those readers, contributors, creators and reviewers who helped us get this far.  It's been hugely appreciated, and you've all really helped to make the comic a rather grand affair!

As of next year, Biodegradable will be going quarterly to allow us to focus on putting out a few one shots and mini series, and also attempt a print on demand collection of the best of issues 1-6.

But don't worry, there's still plenty of exciting material coming up next year.  In fact, have a quick peek at The Last Batch from Chris Sides and Dan Cornwell, for some hilarious booze-addled flesh munching action!

And keep your eyes peeled for issue 7, due out in December and featuring the likes of John Freeman, Alan Burrows, Chris Redfern, JT Pegg, Brett Burbridge, Tony Suleri and more!

Death Duty!

With issue 7 of 100% Biodegradable due out next month, it's time to start doing some previews.

First up is Death Duty from John Freeman (Dr Who, Judge Dredd Megazine, Crucible) and Alan Burrows (2000ad, Starblazer, Commando), with lettering by Ken Reynolds.
Preview of Death Duty by John Freeman and Alan Burrows
The series was first conceived back in the early 90's after John's time as editor at Marvel UK.  Set in a brutal future when corporations run a galaxy-wide empire, where Earth is a dumping ground and far from the planet it used to be, convict Travis Wilson is a man on the edge, conscripted to "peace keeping" duties that see Death Duty members hunting down enemies of their boss.  If you're on The List...he's after you!

Death Duty will be 100% Biodegradable's first ongoing series, running for 8 parts, with Brett Burbridge taking over the art duties from part 2 onwards, and David Hailwood co-writing the series with John.

It also features among its supporting cast the long awaited return of Rourke of the Radlands - a character first created by John Freeman and Liam Sharp (Judge Dredd, Death's Head, X-Men) for Marvel UK's Strip, almost 25 years ago.

Issue 7 of 100% Biodegradable will be out early December.  You can grab previous issues of the 30 page digital anthology on Comicsy, Drivethru and ComiXology for just 69p/$0.99

You can also buy digital copies of John Freeman and Smuzz' popular sci-fi series, Crucible here:  http://cruciblecomic.co.uk

Biodegradable 4 Down The Tubes Review

John Freeman, being the jolly nice chap that he is, has just given the latest issue of 100% Biodegradable a nice bit of press on his Down The Tubes comic news site.

As well as refering to Issue 4 as 'the best issue yet' he has given praise to Tony Suleri's mighty fine Marren Kane artwork, referring to it as 'stunning'.

So, whilst I'm about it, I thought I'd show a brief sample page from the Marren Kane one shot that's nearing completion, titled 'Matters Of The Heart' (in which Marren goes head to head with a scorned ex, some insidious organ sellers, and a whole mass of unsightly Tran-droids).

Enjoy!

100% Biodegradable available on Comixology

Issue 1 of 100% Biodegradable is now available to buy on Comixology!  Issues 2 and 3 have also been accepted and processed, so it shouldn't be long before they're available as well.

Thanks to Comixology's Guided View technology, you should be able to read the comic on smaller devices such as Mobile Phones (I've tested Guided View on my ipad with a complimentary copy that Comixology sent me, and it works very nicely indeed).

So if you haven't already brought yourself a copy of the first issue, now is a jolly nice time to do so (all support is greatly appreciated!).

I'm hoping to do a write-up on the whole Comixology process soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Issue 4 Preview - Sideburns

With issue 4 of the 100% Biodegradable anthology launching in May, it's time to start showing previews of the strips appearing inside.

First up, 'Sideburns: Conjoined Sins' by Jim Alexander, Jon Haward and Nigel Dobbyn (artwork (c) Jon Haward).

This strip first came to my attention when it appeared in Issue 2 of the short lived Bulletproof comic anthology from Matt Yeo (which was also Marren Kane's first home, and featured the likes of Alan Grant, John Freeman and Alan Burrows).  As well as enjoying Jon's dark and gritty artwork, the quirky elements of Jim's script (such as reverse strippers) made it stand apart from your average detective story.

Anyway, they very kindly agreed to let me republish the strip and it's well worth a read if you didn't catch it the first time around (sadly their other Sideburns strip has been tricky to track down, otherwise I'd reprint that one as well).

A bit more about the creators:

Jon Haward is the artist and co-creator of Tales of the Buddha, who has worked on other iconic material such as Judge Dredd, 2000ad, Dan Dare, Spider-man, Shinobi, Warhammer and Mutant Chronicles. He's also worked on graphic novels for Classical Comics that have won awards; Macbeth, The Tempest and Frankenstein.

Keep your eyes peeled for his new Simba Khan series coming soon to Aces Weekly, which is written by the rather talented Paul H. Birch (who has also contributed to this issue of 100% Biodegradable)

http://hawardarthouse.blogspot.co.uk/

Jim Alexander has written Judge Dredd - Calhab Justice, O'Rork and Pandora for the Judge Dredd Megazine, and The Grid for 2000 AD. He has also worked for Marvel, DC, Tokyopop and
Metal Hurlant. He currently writes Ben 10 and Generation Rex for Cartoon Network Action Pack.

In 2012 he set up a small-press label called Planet Jimbot.  Its publications include Amongst the Stars
(drawn by Mike Perkins), Wolf Country (drawn by Luke Cooper), the anthology Amazing & Fantastic Tales and Savant (drawn by Will Pickering and Fin Cramb; originally conceived for Strip Magazine).

He is also involved in several projects for Metal Hurlant Chronicles, which will air in the US this April on Syfy.  The trailer for Whiskey In The Jar, starring Michael Biehn and James Marsters, can be viewed here. It's based on a comic script by Jim Alexander and Gerald Parel, and adapted for TV by Guillaume Lubrano and Jim.

Nigel Dobbyn has worked professionally as an illustrator since 1988, producing comic strips for 2000ad, Sonic the comic, The Dandy, The Beano and Warhammer.

Reviews:

“The stories are irreverent and funny, but the longform tales ooze action and the kind of wonderful craziness we’ve come to demand of the creators involved.” – John Freeman, Down The Tubes

“The kind of smart script and stylish art that would feel right at home in the pages of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic!” Alex Thomas, Pipe Dream Comics

“Good old-fashioned sci-fi escapism, and the art of Tony Suleri is worth the entrance fee alone.” Andy Oliver, Broken Frontier

Issue 3 Preview - Diver Down

With February upon us, I figured it was time to show a few previews of those strips coming up in Issue 3.

To kick things off, here's a preview page from the beautifully atmospheric Diver Down by Mark Bertolini and Carl Yonder (colours by Michael Littlefield Bielaski and letters by Jeff McClelland).

A bit more about the creative team:

"Mark Bertolini is a Toronto-based writer who braves the many months of winter by hunkering down and writing comics books. His notable works include the post-apocalyptic OGN “Long Gone” from UK Publisher AAM Markosia, his supervillain deconstruction “Breakneck” from 215 Ink, and the grindhouse mashup “Scum of the Earth” from Action Lab Danger Zone. He enjoys pro wrestling, music, and beards."

You can learn more about Mark's work at:  http://markbertolini.wordpress.com/

"Growing up a military brat, Carl Yonder and his family traveled around the country and eventually the world. With all of the relocating, his parents and his artwork were the two biggest constants in his life. Over the years, his initial love of art developed into a passion, which he continues to pursue primarily through sequential art and painting.

Currently illustrating the comic Pirate Eye – a hardboiled take on the high seas – written by Josiah Grahn (published quarterly through Action Lab Comics), Carl also has several other comic stories in various stages of development. All of these projects allow him the opportunity to experiment with his art and continue to travel."

You can see more of Carl's artwork at: http://www.carlyonder.com/

Issue 3 of 100% Biodegradable is due out mid-March.

Issues 1 and 2 are available at the following places:
